‘Gotham Knights’ | Character Profiles [Script & Video]

Script:

Warner Bros. Games Montréal’s upcoming open-world RPG, Gotham Knights, is finally doing something that Batman fans have been requesting for years – making the Bat-family playable. Gotham Knights presents a Gotham whose Dark Knight is missing, presumed dead. To keep the forces of darkness from consuming the city, Batman’s proteges – Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood – rise to become Gotham’s new protectors, as they uncover the mystery surrounding their missing mentor and its connection to the enigmatic group, the Court of Owls.

The Bat-family is a large one, with multiple characters sharing the same names, so Fandom is here to break it all down and help you decide which knight’s shoes you’ll be bat-kicking into.

Robin (Tim Drake) – Sidekick No More

First up on our list is Robin. This iteration of Robin is Tim Drake, the third character to take up the mantle.

Despite being a master fighter with his collapsible staff AND an expert in stealth, Tim’s true strength comes from being the smartest and most analytical of the Bat-Family, with the detective skills to rival Bruce’s. His playstyle in Gotham Knights is centred around his affinity with technology, as Robin uses the teleporter technology inside the Justice League’s Watchtower to travel short distances across Gotham. This allows him to get the drop on enemies and find vantage points to use his many gadgets while remaining hidden in the shadows.

Robin is perfect for players who prioritise stealth and prefer a more tactical approach to combat.

Batgirl (Barbara Gordon) – A Knight of Her Own Making

As the daughter of the deceased Commissioner Gordon, Barbara has always had a strong sense of justice. Inspired by Batman, Barbara took on the mantle of Batgirl and before long became an integral ally. Unfortunately, a devastating attack left Barbara paralysed from the waist down, ending her time as Batgirl prematurely.

Never one to give up, Barbara became an expert computer hacker and took on the mantle of ‘Oracle’. As Oracle, she became the eye in the sky, helping to keep the Bat-family one step ahead of crime.

After some intense rehabilitation and training, she was able to heal and return to the role of Batgirl but better than ever, because now both mantles are combined allowing Barbara to unleash hard-hitting targeted attacks but also hack objects in the environment to surprise her enemies. Batgirl is a versatile character that can adapt quickly to new situations.

Nightwing (Dick Grayson) – Defender of Blüdhaven

Born into a circus family, Dick Grayson tragically lost his parents at a young age to organised crime. Seeing much of himself in the young boy, Bruce adopted him as his ward and helped hone his natural acrobatic prowess to become the first ever Robin. By his late teens, Grayson had outgrown ‘Robin’ and he decided to take on a new mantle: Nightwing.

As Nightwing, Grayson uses twin escrima sticks which can also be altered to deliver different types of elemental damage. His skill with the weapons plus his death-defying acrobatics allows him to deliver quick powerful attacks that can hit multiple enemies at once. As a natural leader, he can also boost his team's stats and abilities.

Nightwing is perfect for players who like to hit hard and fast, but can still manoeuvre around the environment quickly to evade attacks and outflank the enemy

Red Hood (Jason Todd) – Gotham’s Peerless Marksman

A not-so-heroic past, wielding guns, a history of excessive force, and nary a bat reference to their codename: The Red Hood isn’t your typical bat-family member. Jason Todd was recruited as the second Robin after a chance encounter with Bruce. Though Bruce sensed Jason's potential, he failed to temper Jason’s explosive outbursts of anger. Something which would result in Jason’s violent death at the hands of the Joker.

Jason would be resurrected years later by one of Batman’s most deadly enemies to become a gun-toting, violent vigilante called the Red Hood – kicking off Jason’s rocky relationship with the rest of the Bat-family.

In Gotham Knights, Jason is an absolute powerhouse, built for players who like to tank enemy attacks. Jason uses non-lethal versions of his dual pistols alongside grenades to deliver brutal attacks from up close and at long range. As a side-effect of his resurrection, Jason can also channel mystic energy that can be used offensively and to traverse Gotham.

All four heroes have defined playstyles and customisable skills that reflect their personalities as both Batman's legacy and the next generation of Gotham's defenders. But it’s up to you to decide what kind of Knight your hero will become.

Play Gotham Knights on Xbox Series X & S, PlayStation 5, and PC on the 21st of October.
